This is what started me thinking about how important this process is.
This is my great grandmother (and me) in 1956. Who is she? Is this where I got my stubborn streak, my soft heart, my sense of justice?
Mimi liked to tell everyone she met she was a war baby - it only just occurred to me she was talking about THE CIVIL WAR. She died in the mid 1960's, which meant she lived almost 100 years. What did she see? What did she experience? Who was her first love? What did she think of the two major wars she experienced, and the third one just starting in Asia?
Now, some of this is my doing. Stories get told, but not absorbed. Children don't see the value in "old stories", and if I was told family stories, they are gone.
I wish I knew more stories...some recipes...more history...
